Towards the end of 2023, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) announced that it would move its services to eCitizen in line with the government directive to centralize all government services. The changes took effect on January 2, 2024. NTSA services on the eCitizen platform include motor vehicle search, registration, inspection, licensing, and ownership transfer services.

In this article, we’ll look at how to do a vehicle ownership transfer on NTSA through eCitizen after selling your car.

Let’s get right into it:

Step-by-Step Guide: How To Do Vehicle Ownership Transfer Through eCitizen

Here’s how to transfer the car to the new owner after selling;

Step 1: Sign in to the NTSA service portal using your eCitizen credentials

Type https://serviceportal.ntsa.go.ke/ on your browser and click “Sign In” if you have an eCitizen account. Otherwise, click on Sign Up.

You will be redirected to the eCitizen platform for you to sign in with your credentials.

Step 2: Log in to eCitizen using your email address or ID number and password.

Step 3: Complete OTP Verification

After filling in your login credentials on eCitizen, a one-time password (OTP) will be sent to your phone. Type in the code and click on “Next.”

Step 4: Select Vehicle to transfer

Click on the vehicle that you want to transfer to the buyer and select “view.” This will take you to a page with the vehicle’s details.

Click on “motor vehicle services” in the top right-hand corner.

Step 5: Apply for Vehicle Transfer

The “motor vehicle services” page has a number of options, including applying for a reflective plate, duplicate logbook, change of particulars, inspection services, and vehicle transfer.

Apply for vehicle transfer. After that, you’ll need to upload the car’s logbook in PDF format and then click on “next” at the bottom right-hand corner.

Step 6: Enter Buyer’s Details

At this stage, you’ll need the buyer’s details such as the KRA PIN. Once you enter the new owner’s KRA PIN and click on “search,” the system automatically populates the buyer’s name.

Step 7: Make Payment

You’re almost done with the vehicle transfer to the new owner. At this stage, you need to pay the vehicle transfer fees. Select your preferred payment method, make the payment, and then click on “complete” and download the payment invoice.

You’ve successfully completed the vehicle transfer and the new owner can now log in to their eCitizen account to accept the transfer.
